Tip # 3 Back to SCHOOL means Back to ROUTINE

In addition to a visual calendar and sufficient sleep, proper nutrition plays a vital role in children's overall well-being and success. Providing them with balanced and nutritious meals is essential for their physical health, cognitive function, and ability to focus in school.

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats provides the necessary nutrients to support brain development and function. Nutrient-dense foods help enhance memory, concentration, and problem-solving abilities, all of which are crucial for effective learning.

Avoiding excessive sugar, highly processed foods, and sugary beverages can help prevent energy crashes and maintain steady focus throughout the day. Proper hydration is equally important, as even mild dehydration can negatively impact cognitive performance.

Including a variety of nutrients in a child's diet not only supports their immediate academic needs but also lays the foundation for lifelong healthy eating habits. By providing consistent access to nutritious meals and snacks, parents can contribute to their children's physical and mental well-being, ensuring they have the energy and cognitive capacity to excel in school and other activities.

Here are two great articles about good nutrition and balance diets from experts.

Healthy SNACK ideas can be challenging... BUT don't let it be...

  • Fruit is a great healthy snack. Peel them, cut them up- making them easier to eat. Fruit Favs are: strawberries, blueberries, bananas, peeled oranges, cut apples (if you put a little pineapple juice in the bag they will not turn brown), grapes

  • Veggie sticks- carrots, celery, zucchini (something about these being in a shape of a stick makes them fun and more appealing to eat.) One of our favs is peeled cucumbers with lime and salt.

  • Rice cakes- they have flavored ones or you can add cream cheese, Nutella, or peanut butter if you are in a allergy free zone.

  • Sea salt seaweed- our favorite and we refer to them as seaweed chips. They are salty and healthy. yummy

  • sausage or turkey & cheese bites

  • Jello

  • gluten free popcorn
